Beltane Celebration and Potluck

Join us as we celebrate the union of the God and the Goddess with the festival of Beltaine! The weather is warming, the air is filled with the scent of flowers, the birds sing their mating calls and a fiery passion stirs deep within all nature. The eternal race for survival begins anew as the goddess is courted once again.

In the Celtic tradition the two greatest festivals of all are Beltane and Samhain. Today we celebrate Beltane, the time of year where the weather starts to get warmer, and the first sprouts of the food crops can be seen making their way out through the rich earth. Beltane is about prosperity, fertility, and the strengthening of bonds. Young men and women would jump over the Beltane fire to attract wives and husbands, pregnant women would jump over the fire to ensure a safe delivery, and couples would jump over the fire to strengthen their bond. This is a time of year where Greenwood marriages are traditionally performed. The bond would last for a year and a day and then could either be renewed the next year or dissolved if the partnership didn’t work out. The May Pole would also be placed in a hole on the ground and people would dance around it with ribbons. Dancing around the May Pole brings fertility and prosperity for the coming year.
